Horse Muck Useable?

Did you know it is possible to generate a car from methane gas? Do you know where methane comes from? Yes, that's right horse waste. "The thoroughbreds and other breeds throughout the Ocala region total a population of approximately 50,000 horses which produce over 400,000 tons of animal waste annually. While the majority of it — 60-70% — can be land applied or composted, we need to implement an earth-friendly method to effectively dispose of the remaining 30-40%," said Richard Hancock, executive vice president of the FTBOA."http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2007/11/creating-energy-from-horse-muck-in-florida-50502 400,000 tons of waste annually? That is a crazy amount. Here we are looking for options when there is one clean option right in front of us.
If we used a combination of alternative energy sources and worked with all of them it would be easier to solve this growing issue. The issue of are we over polluting and killing our earth? Would this happen naturally? I truly believe we could slow down the movement of global warming by not polluting the air with Gasoline. If we used clean energy I think people would be healthier as well. Then we would need to solve the over population issue. That will come later. We can't solve everything but a start is the war/fighting over petroleum.
Horses could be an avenue for change. I know it sounds weird using horse waste, but what if we could really help the earth. The horse waste isn't being used anyway so what would make a difference if we used it to our advantage? It wouldn't. I think it's a smart idea to use this waste to our advantage. Global Greensteam has received financial support from Aera Energy LLC. You may just see this method in the future.

  1. Thats awesome! We could make Sea Vu into a horse waste plant and make methane gas =] Then when I'm driving home I could just stop buy and fill up. Id much rather support that than Irving.

  2. Love the idea!!!!!! I think that if we can find a way to make it work then we should use it because it's not being used for anything now. I mean some people use it for fertilizer but there is a lot of muck not being used. How do they do it though? What would be the process used for converting the waste into a form of gas that would be useful to us?

  3. That's such a great idea, especially since they are talking about doing it in Ocala, which is where I'll be going to school next year. I will have to travel back and forth from Ocala to Inverness so I would feel much better traveling on methane rather than petroleum.
